    Guten Abend =)


    Corinna: Erst mal gute Besserung! Erkältung sind einfach ein fieser Sch..ß!


    Naja bei deinem Enthusiasmus ist das mit dem Anstecken ja wohl kein Wunder ;) Habe jetzt meine 2 Kaudernis, sehr schöne Tiere!
    Würde schätzen etwas 3cm groß. Bei Joe konnte man mir nicht genau sagen wie alt, denke mal aber noch sehr jung.
    Noch verstecken sie sich etwas im Riff aber sie verhalten sich den Umständen entsprechend normal und wagen sich immer weiter raus =)
    Böse Fische im Becken habe ich nicht, sie sehen also einem relaxten Leben ins Gesicht ;)
    Fütter tue ich einen Mix aus Frostfutter und Algenflakes, hoffe sie schlagen nachher richtig zu!
    Ich muss sagen ich habe mich schon richig in die Kleinen verguckt :love:


    EIn Schnappspinnchen ist ein kleines Schnappsglas für einzelne "Shots" ;) Natürlich Fütterung erst nach gründlicher Reinigung^^


    Wie gehts denn deiner Bande? Hast du schon Interessenten gefunden?

    Guten morgen =)


    ENDLICH SCHNEE!!!! Ich hab fast ein Jahr in Nepal verbracht und musste zum Fuß des Mount Everest um Schnee zu sehen und dann
    guckst im schönen NRW morgens aus dem Fenster und alles ist weiß =) Verrückte Welt^^


    Zum Thema:


    Wie alt die Kaudernis sind weiß ich nicht, ich werde sie von Joe in Witten beziehen. Ich weiß nur, dass es Nachzuchten sind,
    die gut im Futter stehen und schon gut 2-3cm groß sind.


    Angesteckt hast du mich schon =) Aber ich würde mir nicht anmaßen zum jetzigen Punkt ernsthaft über Zucht nachzudenken.
    Da bin ich einfach noch zu neu =) DOCH der Tag wird auf jeden Fall kommen!
    Ich füttere meine Fischis übrigens auch im Wechsel mit Schnappspinnchen und Espressotasse ;)

    Hallo Wolfgang,


    super, dann werd ich mal eine Packung Sander
    und eine JBL bestellen plus verschiedene "Aufputschmittel" :)
    Berichte dann natürlich!


    Deinen Wannenthread habe ich natürlich schon
    gelesen und mache mir grad Zeichnungen, wie
    ich sowas hier am besten umsetze:)

    danke für die Antwort! Ich möchte die Artemien
    auch nur zur Zusatzfütterung nutzen, nicht
    zur Aufzucht:)


    Also würdest du empfehlen Inve auch dafür zu nutzen?
    Nutzt du Selco als Anreicherungsmittel? Und wo kriegt man
    die Ersatzsiebe?
    Habe deinen Outdoorzucht-Thread gelesen, klasse kann ich nur
    sagen! Sowas stelle ich im Frühjahr auch mal
    versuchsweise auf:)

  • Hobby Artemien-Zuchtschale wie viele braucht man?

    Hallo zusammen :)


    habe mal eine Frage, ich möchte mir am Wochenende
    wenn ich bei meinem Meerwasserladen des Vertrauens
    bin ein Pärchen Kaudernis kaufen.
    Und wenn ich schon da bin, soll auch eine Hobby-Artemia-Zuchtschale
    in den Einkaufskorb wandern.


    Zur Frage: Macht eine einzelne Schale Sinn zur Ergänzung
    des Futters? Oder ist das eher eine Spielerei?
    Außerdem muss man auch zur Zusatzfütterung
    die guten Artemien von Inve nehmen? Oder sind
    die aufgrund ihrer Beschaffenheit nur zur
    Aufzucht wirklich sinnvoll?


    Ich hoffe, ich habe in der Suche keinen Thread übersehen,
    der das Thema behandelt.

  • Korallenzucht im Gewächshaus

    Hallo Wolfgang =)


    Gern! Ich finde das Thema auch total faszinierend=) Bis jetzt sind alle meine Korallen aus Nachzucht und ich übe mich auch
    schon fleißig selber in der Fragmentierung.
    In der Planung für die Weihnachtsferien ist auch ein automatisch gesteuerter Mondzyklus mit dem daran gekoppelten Wellenschlag =)
    Evtl. kriegt man die Korallen ja so zur sexuellen Vermehrung?! Wenn das okay ist, schreibe ich dir mal eine PN. Mich würde sehr interessieren,
    was du so in dem Bereich machst =)


    Aber zum Gewächshaus:


    ich habe sehr viele Bekannte in den Staaten und tausche mich mit ihnen häufig über unser Hobby aus. Dort ist es relativ normal,
    ein Gewächshaus aufzustellen und dann dort zu züchten. Diese Möglichkeit begeistert mich und ich werde mich so viel wie möglich
    damit beschäftigen, um in Zukunft (nach meinem Bachelor) so etwas zu versuchen!
    Gerade deswegen freue ich mich über eure Gedanken und Ideen, Kritiken und Verbesserungen =)

    hier habe ich mal ein kleines Interview mit dem Besitzer von Tidal Gardens, dem Gewächshausbesitzer vom
    Threadbeginn gemacht. Ich setze euch morgen die deutsche Übersetzung rein.
    Ich habe auch einige generelle Fragen gestellt, für die die keine Lust haben, sich die HP anzugucken

    The greenhouse was built in 2002, so we have been propagating corals for 10 years now.


    > How big is your total volume of water in the system?


    When we first started, it was 3,000 gallons, but in the past few years the systems have grown to 5,000 gallons. There are five separate systems, and each of them are 1,000 gallons.


    > Do you just use natural lighting for the growing process or do
    > you add artifical lights?


    There is a mix of both natural and artificial light. For the vast majority of the corals, natural light is used, and the artificial light is just to add some blue color for our viewing. The only coral system where we rely on artificial lighting is for our SPS. Acropora and Montipora do not do well in a greenhouse without very consistent light. Because of the seasons, the amount of light fluctuates a great deal and without a stable light source these corals did not do well for the longest time. They would spend most of the time being brown.


    We use a lot of LED lighting fixtures in the greenhouse now and are very happy with them.


    > Out of your experiences in growing corals this way, how many days a
    > year sunlight is sufficient?


    Believe it or not, you are much more likely to have problems with too much light rather than too much darkness. We live in Ohio which is one of the cloudiest places in the United States. In the summer months, it is too bright for most of our corals. The best seasons to grow coral and have them color up is the fall and winter when it is colder and darker. Everything looks its best in the deep winter months of January and February.


    > How does your technical set up looks like? (Skimmer, Pumps,etc.) How do you supply your corals with the right amount of calcium and magnesium?


    The systems are actually very simple. They have a single protein skimmer and a single calcium reactor. I've tried as best as possible to use the fewest number of pumps. Most of the tanks receive relatively low flow compared to most people's home aquariums.


    > Do you use any water additives? (Balling?)


    No. The only method we use to control calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium is a calcium reactor, and water changes. Each week, we change out 400 gallons of water.


    > Do you feed your corals, if yes how often?


    Yes. We spot feed corals every other day. The tanks are fed each day for the fish, but every other day we make a special effort to directly feed corals.


    > How do you handle the extrem difference in temperature between summer and winter times?


    Temperature control is the most difficult aspect of having a greenhouse. If you haven't already, take a look at this video I made:

    The things we have learned is:
    1. Invest in good wall materials. Nothing can replace the benefits of a well-insulated building. We like multi-walled polycarbonate because it is both strong and has a high insulating value.
    2. Heating in the winter is fairly easy. We decided to install radiant heating in the floors and also run heated water to the tanks in a closed loop.
    3. Cooling in the summer is difficult. Fans are helpful, but the most effective systems are roof-top vents to let hot air escape and geothermal cooling systems to bring down water temperatures directly.


    > Would you tell us something about your energy supply and the roughly cost?
    > (if you are not comfortable don´t answer pls =) )


    Honestly it would not be that meaningful to give an exact number. If this operation was in another state, everything would be very different depending on the cost of gas/electricity and the difference in climate. These buildings have to be constructed with the location in mind.


    > What kind of coral is the best to use for this way of propagation (which ones you get the best results of?)?


    We have tried just about every kind of coral. Zoanthids and LPS do very well. SPS can struggle and would perhaps do better in a different type of system. Our SPS are doing ok, but we have had to overcome many obstacles that would not be present in a home system (seasons, etc.).


    > How many different types of coral you got in stock in the moment?


    It is hard to tell. Any time we like something we bring it in, so we may have over 1000 different types of coral.


    > When you get new corals, are they from the wilderness or already out of
    > aquaculture?


    Both. We work with importers that bring in corals from Australia and Indonesia and also local hobbyists that are successfully propagating their own corals. We like buying from hobbyists whenever possible because the corals tend to be much healthier and stable compared to recently imported coral. Also, we want to promote and encourage aquaculture so hopefully in the future more people will propagate their corals and it would lessen the environmental impact on the reefs.


    > How often you frag your corals and how are the rates of surviving?


    We do not have a set schedule, but our systems are full of coral. If we wanted to, we could propagate every day and double our inventory but we would run out of space! The vast majority survive the propagation process. Over 90%.


    > Could you please tell us something about the fish you keep in the system?
    > Do you also breed them?

    We like to keep herbivores such as Foxfaces and Tangs as well as sand-sifting fish like orange spot gobies.


    > Would you send corals also to Europe if requested?


    Unfortunately, we cannot. We do not have an export permit and it is very expensive to do so. Otherwise, we would love to send items to our friends overseas!


    > Could you give us some pictures of your system, so that we can get an idea of the way it works?
